Fellas,
Have you read the newest edition of TIME magz today? (ed Apr 07, 2008) Look at the numbers of the renewable energy as stated inside it and provided below. This is one of the hottest issue discussed and debated in our Sampoerna-ITB class 2007 of Energy. As a matter of fact, it is incorporated into our curriculum, and even the business or at least development is currently performed by some of our fellow classmate and faculty.
Now, given out the report of TIME magz, is there something more out there we should find out?
the Numbers
365 Days one person could be fed on the corn needed to fill an ethanol-fueled SUV
USD 100 billion Estimated size of 2010 biofuel market
300,000 Hectares of Brazillian rain forest lost in the last six month of 2007. Or nearly as big as the Greater Jakarta area.

hmm.. jadi walaupun 'clean' energy, tapi tetap aja mengorbankan ekosistem ya ?
i haven't read Time's article, but based on my knowledge there are some problems with clean fuel, for example... ethanol is not the answer ---> renewable in general sounds good but it really turns out bio-ful can make global warming worse, because if for every area where we grow plant (corn) for ethanol instead of for food, then there're more areas needed to grow for food somewhere else, thus then deforestation would happen and in turn, the world produce more carbon.
additional note: in essence, there's no such thing as 'renewable energy' (call it clean fuel, biofuel, solar power, etc, etc). back to the basic physics: energy cannot be produced, generated, recycled, it can only be converted -- but then when every time we perform conversion there's entropy -- a loss of useful/available energy. if we continue to increase energy consumption (even if we use the so-called renewable sources), we will continue to increase the entropy -- contribute to global warming. because there's only limited sources of energy in this planet, instead of exchanging regular energy with clean energy, best is just reduce our energy consumption....
