As obviously suggested by its name; its specialized itself on serving sushi meals, along with some other things. You can choose to be seated on standard tables as on any other common dining places, or on around its exotic sushi bar – one of its kind on the whole world of dine-in. Sure it gives you a very different atmosphere and nevertheless a quite new dining experience.
And what is a sushi bar? Basically it is the same as any other bar you could find anywhere; whereas the customer sits and enjoy their meals or drink around a long table, faces themselves up to the bartender and could directly make their orders. The difference is, the sushi bar’s table is usually formed in full circle, thus surrounding “the bartenders” – or the chefs, right in the middle of it. And instead of having their orders taken, the customers hand-pick of whatever menu they want to eat; whereas all of the meals are put by the chefs on top a revolving belt that goes around in that full circles. Oh, and we still can see how “the bartenders” prepares their creations.
Though following recent booming appearance of lots of Japanese style sushi restaurants in Jakarta, I instantly fell in love with Sushi Tei, ever since I’d been introduced to it by SZ, on one of our few first dates, ca. April 2006, at its Plaza Senayan outlet. It has good ambience, good values, good foods, and of course great taste.
My favorite dish is the creamy “Salmon Mentai Yaki” (at the posting of this review, priced around IDR 50,000 or +/- USD 5.50); a palm sized well-done grilled salmon, covered by juicy topping sauce and accompanied by a slice of fresh lemon. Ummh, just writing it down here has made my saliva running down my throat.. (grin). Not to forget to order some dessert like “Wafer Chocolate ice cream” (IDR 16,000 or +/- USD 1.80) to complete your journey. For beverages, there are some fruit juices choices. But “Ocha (or Japanese green tea)” would be just a perfect companion – either served iced cold or extremely hot; it is totally free, and comes with free refills as much as you want (or can take it!:p). My wise suggestion for your poor stomach: take it hot. And you shall thank me for that.
For bargain hunters, you’d better take a bar side position; where you can chat or daydream and wait until your favorite dishes rolls over in front of your hungry eyes, definitely much better than be seated far from it and have to mention your order to its very busy waitress. Sitting along the sushi bar means that you can stop or assume your dining at anytime you want, without having to have the fears of ordering more than you could handle. And be careful; the price is differentiated by the color of the dishes; “blue” for the cheapest one (IDR 8,000 or less than a dollar), “pink” (IDR 13,000 or ca USD 1.50), “black”, “brown”, and so on. I don’t exactly know because I take none other than the blue of the pink ones, ahahah..
What make it become more attractive spots because they are located in relatively reachable places for me; ie on Plaza Senayan, PI Mall #2, and its newest spot, Senayan City. Having tried all of the three outlets, just wondering when they would open another one at Kelapa Gading Mall or on its surrounding area (crossing all my fingers..:p)
I strongly think that its PS outlet has been quite well-known for the commuters-to-go, that’s why it’s always fully-packed with young urban professionals or some other college students. It’s a good place to hang out with friends, but felt uncomfortable enough for your family. Better take them to its PI Mall #2 outlet; that thanks to its area, has more friendly family aura hung over the air. On another hand, its Senayan City outlet by far is their best one. Already big enough to catch its hiking demands ever; it is armed with the biggest sushi bar I’ve ever seen in Jakarta (tell me if you have spot another bigger one), more standard tables to support the conventional flocks, and here’s the good news; they have some private dining rooms – either few that big enough to fit your family or office’s department celebration, or another smaller ones that just perfect for couples-in-love or more intimate friends.
Another positive things; it has been awarded as one of the best 2006 Japanese (sushi) restaurant in Jakarta by the “Jakarta Java Kini” magazine. Sounds legitimate enough, huh? Besides, friends and loved ones who has experienced the real sushi in Japan prefers to have their meals there; because of its (quite near) authenticity tasting. Sure these shall make Sushi Tei to be your 1st choice for having some sushi meals, or just to hang out with your peers.
Just be prepared to have to queue in line for quite some time before you could be seated! No pain, no gain.. (smiling).

fugue: hmm., cant remember a thing named that, though. But thanks for your recommendation
perempuan: Ohyawh? Ternyata ada cabang yg di plaza indonesia ya? Gue malah baru tahu tuh; makanya nggak ikutan direview, hehe.. Gitu ya, waitress-nya lbh ramah? Btw, jadi gimana, kemarin elo jd buka puasa di sushi tei? Hmm, mungkin gue harus mulai minta komisi ke sushi-tei nih, atas promosi yg gue lakukan, hehe..
sembilan: whohoo.. we've got a pro' here! Glad you share the same taste as me, mbak..(smiling) |

Perempuan DTN: You know what? Ternyata acara buka puasa gue kemarin dipindahkan paksa & mendadak dr Plangi ke Plaza Indonesia - dinner di Sushi Tei, trus lanjut ke Bakerzin sampe jebot, hehe.. And you're right; the waitress were more friendly & professional. Even they were so helpful to respond to my silliest inquiries, ahahha.. |

 | From: "Atan" Date: Tue Oct 10, 2006 3:00 am (PDT) hyeeeeeeeee..... wutchup duck... 50 rebu buat satu salmon yang semrenyel doank? ini sih namanya "mocking the blue collar class"! penghianatan terhadap nilai-nilai sosial whatsoever would that mean hehehe.....anyway kalo ditraktir om Cahyo sih gw hayu aja....tapi gak lah yah kalo nyengajain beli, mending gw beliin pempek abing yang di cassablanca 5 biji. hehehe norak gak sih
From: TLT Sent: Wed, Oct 11, 2006 8:45 AM Makan pempek di Jakarta? Nggak banget deh! Heheh.. Kalo ngomongin pempek sih, musti langsung ke Palembang Bos! Banyak merek yg ngetop, tapi biasanya kadar kengetopan berfluktuasi entah kenapa; apa gara2 bisnis melayu ya? Begitu laku dikit, quality control nya langsung drop --> gara2 nafsu pengen untung lebih gede. Bbrp nama yg bisa gue rekomendasikan: A Kioen, Candy, Nony, hmm..apalagi ya? Tapi yg paling oke sih, A Kioen. Mereka baru mulai nanjak tuh, jadi toko nya juga masih kacau suracau gitu deh. Btw, mereka melayani pesan antar, lhoo.. Tertarik? Hehhe.. |
 | From: Ira Aryani Sent: Wed, Oct 11, 2006 9:55 AM Yo, Sushi Tei tuh tempat favorit gw disbanding resto jepang lainnya, lagian lokasinya pas banget. Biasanya gw tuh pengen nyoba bikin sushi/sashimi sendiri, terutama Salmon, tapi kalo beli Salmo di supermarket (mis. Hero or carefour), rasanya ga semantep disana. Nah hasil icip2 and eksperimen gw untuk bikin salmon tuh yang paling enak beli salmonnya di Cosmo Supermarket Wijaya, salmonnya fresh and rasanya mendekati salmon sushi tei deh… Oks deh Yo, segitu aja, met nyoba ya…
From: TLT Sent: Wed, Oct 11, 2006 10:45 AM Hey, glad you share the same taste with me, boleh dong; sekali2 kita makan bareng sambil ngobrol2 di sana..heheh.. Atau malah elo mau masakin gue salmon mentai yaki nya? (grin) |
 | Perempuan DTN: iya nih, akhirnya nyoba yg di plaza indonesia juga, hehe.. Tapi kmrn tuh sbnrnya nggak jelas siapa yg akhirnya ngerubah tujuan pas detik2 terakhir. Walaupun gue yakin bgt, pasti gara2 terpengaruh baca review gue di atas, ahaha.. (*ge-er.com). About the inquiries, I forgot what was it all about. Tapi tempat paling indah teuteup; Senayan City - walau pelayanannya super duper menyebalkan lamanya & asli nggak responsif... |
 | From: Alfi Santhi Sent: Wed, Oct 11, 2006 12:56 PM Klo soal sushi tei: I've been there: with my best friend, on my boss' farewell party, with uncontinous-relation-dating a month ago (hiks) which he likes sushi tei a lot...
