Oops! :p

Mengapa tidak T.A.S.?

Ah, toh bukan saya yang menulis buku sejarah. WTF. Haha.

Lots of friends and colleagues claimed themselves to be a devoted Japanese food lover. Even though apparently they don’t have enough chance, and sometimes the guts, to explore the whole things.

Me? Never do that. Of course I couldn’t afford the exclusivity of the meals at the very best of it, as well. But I admit that I can barely stand the temptation of having either another dish of Hoka Hoka Bento’s Shrimp Rolls or Sushi Tei’s Salmon Mentai Yaki. So cheesy, eh? Heuhe. But that's just mee! :-)

For me, both choices tasted heavenly, of course, and, probably most importantly, bear something a bit melancholy. Each was dearly introduced to me by an ex lover, respectively*grin. The 1st one was back in 1997 (she was a dentistry student at the University of Indonesia), whilst the later one was somewhere near April 2006 (she was a practicing lawyer, also an UI’s graduate). All were successfully gained me as the newest worshipper of the mentioned dishes, hehe.

But better leave such preferred experiences behind when you got the chance to try this cozy and elegance Japanese restaurant; Imari, located at the very heart of JW Marriot, Surabaya. For it offers you the real way to enjoy the exotic meals of Japan. Set of menu of choice, timely served, on such precise coordinated movements. Classic Japanese cuisine served in a sophisticated atmosphere. With sound and plenty matching booze ready to be ordered, and adequate privacy allocated for each table as wished for.

Whether you choose to be seated on the usual dining tables, the cubicle ones, just beside the sushi bar, or prefer to have the indulgence of the tatami rooms deeper inside the restaurant; you will have the same attention from a bunch of helpful and friendly waiters. Of course there would be lots more ambiences that could be expected from the sanctuary of those tatami rooms. There you can have your, ahem, “real” Japanese style of socializing, I guess, without much bothering, or to be bothered by, another casual guest outside.

I praise the way they add some personal touch on re-reserving your favorite drinks; by labeling each one with the patronage’s names, and displaying them behind the sushi bar. Therefore you don’t have to finish it at once, as it is supposed to be on another places, and after that, you could come again without having the difficulties to order another bottles, or worst getting it run out. A smart way to retain your customers, no? Besides, those bottles also served as the restaurant additional decoration. Hmm.

Back to those tortured tongue of us, well then, most of the colleagues, the 70 students and faculties or so of the certification class (including me, ha-ha!) left the place somewhat dissatisfied and confused, concerning the treat we received. One friend noted by saying that he didn’t like the food, because it didn’t feel as good as the ones he used to have at his local Hoka Hoka Bento's chain. *grin

Have you ever heard of the place? The, uh, quite unusual name was actually the acronym of its original spirits; ZOE – Zone Of Education and entertainment, pronounced as "z-o-e". Getting widely covered by mainstream medias for the last few years since it was opened for public in June 2006, the distance location from the main hemisphere of Jakarta seems made it only known for a number of university students of Margonda.

The place boasted its vast collection of comics, a handful on Indonesian’s most popular books and novels, some magazines (either new or old), quite satisfying number on sociology and political subjects, and of course as already mentioned, the comics. And the library. Some friends stated that even they offered some DVD and movies related and/or attached to the comics, but not yet available in the regular markets, i.e. the powerful 21 Cineplex connection.

The bookshop is not just interesting in its interior design and layout, but most of all, because it provides huge discount for the books. No wonder, because by having this kind of bookshop, it could save the cost expended by regular bookshop chains either in electricity, building rental, prime location fee, management fee, etc. We witnessed some of the books were sold with 40% discount, and they’re still in a very good condition. Sure it made me yelled in frustration; because I just bought some of them on normal price. Hhhhh..

On weekend, they provided live music played on Top 40 and some oldies. As usual on everywhere else, people could come up with their own requests, or even singing their own songs. And don’t forget to take notes on the attractive violinist, who was able to share his enthusiasm and passion to his audience. Luckily the place not having any liquor, for at least a middle age man had gone nearly mad in joyfully responding to the music, to the embarrassment of his wife. It was quite an entertainment itself! Hehe.

Don’t have the ears for the tunes? Don’t worry. Most of the patronages were spotted just need an indulgence where they can happily surf the net (broadband lines provided pro-bono), being close to friends and relatives (some full family were came there, too), or just be there by their own in such a nice and cozy environment with various great position to sit, a wonderful tropical garden to be enjoyed (although it got a humidity problems at nights), a gorgeous Guest Relation Officer (which kinda aloof to her customers, hehe), and an army of nice and helpful waitress.

But the place was not all about books and movies and music, it also well prepared in serving its guest with a great length of food and style. I wonder how hard it’s gonna be to work as their chef, have to practice all those meals and beverages. Luckily I have the privilege just to sit down and have my food prepared!*grin. The meals were amazingly served with clever appearance and yet on such amazing budget price! No wonder the place was a huge success among students, and yet could also attracted family and spouses seemingly from all ages, background, and groups.

I have to bitterly mentioned though, that the taste were not that good, but the Iced Mocha Frapuccino (picture as shown below). Some should be more than mediocre, like the Zouppa Soup; if only we could add some salt and pepper on it. Another things delivered to us were simply below that level. For instance, “the Chicken Cordon Bleu” I used to order anywhere else just to judge the café. No matter how great the cook might had been, the chicken on my plate tasted like it has been buried and forgotten in the refrigerator since the Ice Age. It was, uh, disastrous.

Another worth to be mentioned was the portion of the meals. Beware! It was soo small, even whilst looking at the menus on arrival, we already knew that we have to ordered 2 (two) different kind each, to enable us to satisfy our appetite after a long day at the University of Indonesia nearby.

Sure they have something more to offer. Besides, what do you expect from a budget café located just next to some of the biggest educational institutions of the city? Well, learn and (try to) live with that, and you’d be surprised to find out that you started to fall in love with the place. And the memories printed in the shadows.

In fact, I did.

Gara2 hari Senin hampir seminggu sebelumnya ada rapat with the government people yang diselingi makan siang di restoran ini, gue jadi kepikiran buat datang lagi.

If you do know me well, then you realized that it’s somewhat weird. Why? Because I hate seafood. Bukan alergi sih, seperti tuduhan banyak orang atas penolakan gue untuk setiap ajakan makan seafood, but simply because I just don’t like its taste. Emang susah kalo punya lidah yang terlalu peka; beda rasa dikit aja (atau dalam beberapa hal, beda tehnik pengolahan) udah bikin kerongkongan gue ngambek. Terkunci rapat, kagak mau kemasukan ntu makanan. Hiks. Gue bahkan sampe bisa ngebeda’in mana air aqua yang produksi Panda’an, mana yang asli Bogor, dan mana yang ngaku2nya Bogor, padahal produksi kota Bekasi… yikes! Bayangin aja, sumur di tengah2 daerah industri, gitu lhoo (for the record, I visited some of their factories for official inspections).

Bagian depan bangunan tsb berbentuk huruf “U”. *grin

For those of you the regular patronages of seafood Mecca anywhere else, beware, this restaurant’s new building offers some culture shock by its new minimalism style. It is so hip, trendy, and very urban. Yet also with some ambiguity of the little plastic greeneries put right in the middle of the lower level, and surrounded on one side with some concrete bamboo walls. All those black, orange, and fake green, along with a party-look blue-ish lighted fake waterfalls; no matter how classy it looks, seems disconnected us with the historic experience our parents or grandparents might ever had on the old, very modest place, just across the street.

Hmmmm… Favorit gue “Iced Lime Squash” tak lupa dipesan. Juga minuman wajib pendamping seafood; “Es Degan Batok”. Mantabbss..!

Special mention should goes to that black-pepper-sauced-crabs.

But up here, it seems a mandatory.*smirk!

But in the end, it’s always about the food. The great food, indeed. All another could be complained later. This is what I thought when I received my additional changes, due to some correction I asked on my bills. WTF.

Notes:

On my both consecutive visit there, we noticed there were lots of WIL’s and PIL’s eat there with each respective partners. It totally reminds me of one particular scene on Dinata’s “Berbagi Suami”. Although how fancy they dressed, how confident they walked; our eyes could still differentiate who is who. But considering such deep roots of china-town neighborhood, we’re taking that for granted.

Hints:
Just don’t look in the eye of those WIL’s and PIL’s “owners”, they act like their little toys are going to be stolen away *grin

Wuihh, mantabb tenann.. Ohyawh, ternyata ujung2nya gue dibayarin pula sama temen! Sering2 aja yak! :p

Had a nice nite, guys. Many thanks!

Gara2 sore2 menjelang ngegolf bareng bokap, malah ngebaca postingannya Prof Mer tentang Ayam Goreng Sunda gue jadi ngeces uncontrollable deh, hehhe.. Pokoke pwenguenn!! Jadi ngidam nggak keruan gini. Siyal..siyalll….!!

Dua porsi Ayam Penyet, semangkok Es Oyen, segelas es teh manis, plus menu tambahan semangkok Soto Kambing Jakarta pun segera terhidang di atas meja.

Tapi rasanya dong! Dan terutama, sambalnya itu lhoo.. Super duper pedaassss….!!!

Damn it! Sekedar nulis begini pun gue udah ngeces lagi, arrggjjhhh…..!!! *jambak2 rambut.

Happy trying!

Who doesn’t love Pizza, especially the sophisticated one like what they offered at Izzi? Most of all, it won’t cost you a dime; since a friend treat you there to celebrate her birthday. All you can eat, she said! And off we went. Yihaaa..!! :-)

The best part of Izzi could be found on its refillable refreshing iced Blackcurrant (which I could take up to 5-7 glasses *grin), Izzi dough ball, served hot with mouth-watering butter, spicy and mild fried chicken wings, over sized pasta, and of course – the pizza itself.

That was exactly the moment we found shared happiness on our face. As captured here. Yet to prevent sudden hunger attack, we decided not to upload the most tempting part of the pictures, i.e. the ones on the meals. Hmm…yummy!

Wanna join us? *grin

Dan eh, siapa bilang Starbucks = eksekutif muda?*grin I’m young alrite, but not an executive (yet).

I mean, there's a bunch of another coffee shops out there, ranging from one to another; all you got to do is just matching it with your taste (and wallet, of course, hehe), and choose. For instance, I hate Coffee Bean at PS for the way its crowd behaved, and so on.

But why I go to Starbucks? Because I love its taste, the cozy atmosphere offered, the friendly and helpful staffs, and especially the whole experience I got with just a cup of nice bold iced moccachino triple grande no sugar. D’ohh, did I mention it right?

Hehhe..

But started from last 2004, I had a lot of quality time with several dearly friends, and I love it to death.

This is the kind of the music club that has real class. And I mean “the real one”. Oh, boy!

Located in one of the city's most prominent business districts, the club was initially quite hard to be found, especially for those of you whose not familiar with Jl Wijaya; that including me, thank you. Although it was actually located almost next to CCF Wijaya and Sindang Reret Sundanese restaurant (both are not familiar spots for me either, hehe).

Its front door was simple, yet artistic and very elegant; pointing out arrogantly to anyone whose might not properly attired for the place. Some friends warned me that they experienced being rejected by the club. But I guess that was due to they didn’t comply with its suggested outfit nor didn’t have any reservation. Whilst we should be calm and confident, since another friend has done it for us – right under the name of the night’s performer, I guess. The great Didi Mudigdo, Mr, an internationally well-known jazz pianist and vocalist, perhaps the only reason for us to come.

On entering Nine Muses, one begun to appreciate its labyrinth-like structure. Though we got some difficulties to adjust ourselves to the tone, we gotta admit that after a short walk down a narrow candle-lit corridor, we never quite imagine that such place could be existed in such a business district. Very impressed, we did, as walked inside further. Especially when we noticed the librarian style artistically arranged on one corner. With real Penguin books!, we exclaimed in such disbelief.

The atmosphere and the waitress are somewhat intimidating, and even made my friend, who supposed to be more adapted to this kind of environment better than me, nervous and unsure about herself. We had our dinner previously at Pacific Place; therefore we planned to order some coffee. But the waitress acted like she didn’t hear us, and prepared dinner sets, then offered us a long line of decadence meals. I mean, the price, of course. *grin

The food range was quite fantastic, with European style and mainly dominated by French cuisine, although on a certain section my eyes managed to spot a wagyu steak offered. Weird. But then we strengthen our minds, and politely returned the menus whilst smiled to the, bravo!, turned out to be an understanding waitress.*grin One positive point secured. By the way, their welcoming french bread bites served with vinegar mixed was simply awesome!

Of course we immediately compared Nine Muses with our previous shared experience at Black Cat, another jazz dedicated club in town. We realized that there was a distinctive atmosphere between the two; whereas we suspected that Nine Muses not just targeting to an older audiences but also the wealthier and more powerful ones. We did see some familiar public faces there.

Yet, completely in line with one old adagium, that you got what you paid, then the same premise applied here. Lots of us are exhausted by the place around Jakarta who dares to call themselves as music bars, but with some ear-splitting noise they call music. Plus with a menu that could only afford some kind of overpriced french fries, fried squid, and tonnages of beer; along with a very dark ambience and over loud sounds. If you felt exactly like that, then you have to try this club.

The interesting part of the club is not just the sensual and romantic open areas in front of the stage, but also the outdoor area filled with table and chairs and lots of greeneries. Pretty interesting and of course is distinctively different, eh? We thrilled to try the exotic spot, but soon forget the idea considering the hot Jakartan air that night and especially since we came to see Didi on stage.

Didi, born in Australia, did look like ones who spent their life aboard. His confidence was real and he smiles sincerely. He wasn’t cocky nor behaved like God like most of our performers. He just played the piano beautifully and did sing with a skillfully mastered voice. I don’t really understand music, especially the real jazz melody; but my friend, who’s got better experience than me (she was once a Jazz singer herself and played in a various bands), was as amazed as I was. And we thank God for the chance given tonite (hahaha, nggak sampe segitunya sih).

Further info about the great Didi could be found here : Pianis/Vokalis Didi Mudigdo duet dg Pemusik Jazz Jakarta. Whilst when you interested on Nine Muses, feel free to check them out at The Nine Muses club, www.ninemusesclub.com, Jl. Wijaya I/25, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, Ph. +6221 722 1188, Fax +6221 7279 0849

From this moment, a great consciousness came to my reality; that it is okay to spend some resources e.g. time and especially money to sit on places like these, and treat your senses right. For every once and a while. And thus, considering the price of spots like those. Furthermore, believe me, it would be more than just okay to secure a ticket or two to attend such festivals; be it music or movies, like the upcoming Java Jazz Festival 2008 on March. Boy, Didi and Nine Muses did successfully make me eagerly anticipating the moment the festival come.

Having heard the name of, arguably, one of the most interesting place to go with the few closest friends or merely to indulge oneself in the real Jazzy mood, inside its cozy interior and their friendly ambience, for quite some time; still can hardly allocate my free time enough to taste it more than listening to some boasting friends.

Few chances came and vanished, along with some promising souls once set a date or two to attract me to stop by with, some glancing away for every once and a while every time passing by its gate over and over again; months and years has passed by before finally managed to knocking on the Heaven’s doors. Thanks to the hard effort courtesy of a friend, I even stay tuned to the course, and could stand for the torture instead of going home earlier and enjoyed the book of Saladin and Lion Heart in progress. Or from maintaining discipline and reaching out to my paper once again*

Less could be offered by its misplaced building style and decoration, not to mention its location on some distance from the Plaza Senayan, forced us to walk to it. No one seems to know its exact location though, thus we basically tried our best guess, hehe. Arrived shortly and walked our way to the 2nd floor, our quite low-level spirit could only be boosted up by anticipating the insider experience of the place. Up to this, a 4-point score could easily be saved.

And boy, oh we did have some fun there! For no cover charge and quite reasonable beverages price list, too bad we already full thus missed the chance to try the cuisine offered, one could not help but wonder how such place could defend itself against its own overhead, and most of all, its competing hipper neighbors. Sure, the fact that it is one of its kinds should be brought up too. Or perhaps because it has some dedicated patronages, along with some hard-core audiences; as ones could be easily spotted on that niter?

The lead singer blanketed us all with her strong, beautiful, adorable voices. Though her stage performance raised suspicion on how much glasses of wine she had previously taken, hehe. The whole band played quite well with some measured jamming session for each individual. The dimmed lighting seems well to create the needed atmosphere. In short, it was near perfect.

But hey, wait up! What was the noise? Ouch, some spoiled brats who happily and, annoyingly, loudly talked, chatted, and laughed to each other – here and there. They did not bother about that bunch of irritated starring guests or the melodious sounds of the performing band. We did not think that they even aware of where they were; that people come to that place to have some listening experience and not to compete with each other in unnecessary loudness.

Do you really come here to listen to the music and shut up, or just to show us that you can really afford the place as a location to share your daily gossip to each other? It was so amazing that neither the ushers nor those attractive guest relations lady officers do a thing to appropriately handle the situation. Whether they afraid, or just being permissive, for this un-appropriate disturbance, the place should lose another star. Therefore, its final score was only 3 out of 5.

Black Cat is a very interesting place that I might want to see again, but perhaps not quite that soon. Sure, it is still one of the best alternatives available in town.

Acara buka puasa bareng keluarga besar gue yang sangat ditunggu2; 29 atau 30 Sep ntar (tergantung kapan kakak ipar gue balik dari Balikpapan), tapi kemungkinan besar musti tgl 30 sih.

Believe it or not, mbak gue sampe bela2in beli gaun spesial buat acara itu. Hadohh, mbaakk..segitunya.. *grin

Undangan sekitar 25 orang kaya'nya. Bangkrut dah gue! Huehehhe..

Itung2 pemanasan sebelum Lebaran, haiyyaa..

Updated 25-Sep-07

Ternyata acara berpindah nggak jadi di Le Grand Café nya Mahakam, tapi loncat agak jauh dikit ke Hotel Mulia.. hmmm.. malah upgrade tempat nih, dan..budget! Hehhe.. Oopss..! :p

Pertimbangan? Budget, lokasi, fasilitas, rasa & kualitas makanan, service, spasial ruang, unsur kenyamanan.. hmm apalagi yha?

My dad has a strange habit: a native Surabaian himself and had spent his life there for the biggest part of his young hood life, he developed an acute dislikeness of meals made from ducks. To be more specifically: that famous fried duck. Hints: it’s a specialty from the region. To this, I can’t say a word.

Haven’t had the chance myself to learn what its tasted like until I lived at Malang back in 1993-1994. There, what previously was taken for granted, finally came up to mind and made me wondering why. A question that is inquired from time to time, of how he couldn’t stand such a heavenly delicious meat. A suspicion crossed my mind though; that he actually never tasted it before, but just being intimidated by the appearance of the bird, and the way it live.

Last Thursday nite I got a chance to proof my theory, i.e. by gave him a fried meal, without fully informed him of what it was. I just told him that I bought it whilst I had my lunch that day. And guess what? As predicted yet still much to my delight surprise, he really-really loved the food! He even talked a lot about it, and wondered where the restaurant’s location is, and why he never heard of it before. To this, I couldn’t helped but smiled whohooo..got you, Dad! Fried duck is sure a one kind of meals, rite?

Earlier in the afternoon, a bunch of friends and I held a farewell lunch party for one of us. The place, Begor Suryo (Begor means “Bebek Goreng” or fried ducks), was randomly selected at once, due to the hectic schedule and thanks to a fun-forwarded email received in the morning by another friend. A few amongst us were dedicated fried duck lovers (including me, of course), some others still could vividly remember the tasty duck meals we had on Trans TV’s cafeteria at Jl Tendean, Jakarta, and the rest were eager to try something new and exotic – especially when it came up free of charge, hehe..

The place was located on Jl Suryo, Suropati, an uptown business district virtually situated in the backyard of the Jakarta Stock Exchange complex, South Jakarta. No wonder, to our amazement, the restaurant was nearly fully packed with “reserved” signs almost on all of their dining table. Hey, it’s still a half hour to noon, the white collar slaves were not supposed to be there yet, no?

Its ambience was calm, friendly, and cozy. With colonial style interior, traditional chairs and table made from woods, and smiley and very helpful waiters. The choices on the menu may not be as complete as the one on “Mbah Jingkrak”, which was originally opened in Klaten, Central Java, under the same name> But I prefer Begor much, since they offered a different kind of menu. Some of them were that famous duck meals (of course) and its various choices – be it grilled, fried, etc; various fried traditional snacks, catfish, chicken, beef, you named it! For beverages, they served lime squash (my true love!), iced degan (fresh young coconut with syrup and ice), iced tea, and soft drinks - and a traditional beverages seems so unique that I cant ever remember its name*grin. All their meals were a real threat for our tongue and mind; lots of positive praise were shouted during the course. Their lime squash was quite disappointing though, since apparently they didn’t use real lime fruit but some kind of syrup as used by another cafés. Too bad.

What came to my attention much as well as others' was “Nasi Cobek”, we believed it was a Surabaya version of a complete “Nasi Timbel”, a traditional complete meals set originated in West Java. Basically it’s a dishes consisted of rice, fresh cutted garden vegetables, “sambal bajak” (blended fried chilies and various spices), fried soy cake, fried tofu, a bulk of fried salted ocean fishes, and of course, fried chicken and/or beef.

The main difference this time was it used fried ducks, and that salted ocean fishes were changed to “ikan teri” (salted small ocean fishes) and here’s the blast… the whole dishes was not served on plates as usual, but on “Cobek”!! Can you imagine that? Hints: cobek is a rounded stone plate especially used by the chef to prepare and to blend “sambal”. And it is considered rude by many tribes around Indonesia it is sooo rude to place cobek on top of the dining table, especially in front of your guests. But here, the restaurant is using it as their guests’ food dishes. What a knock out!

Nevertheless, wait until you taste it. Hmmmmm….mak nyusss! Wheww..just writing it down here, and it started to make me hungry and make my mouth watering, huehhehe..

This place is a must every time your tongue miss the taste of a decent fried ducks, and everyone knows how hard to find one even in this cosmopolitan Jakarta. Highly recommended for the location (we believed that there were at least of flirtatious couples there by the time we arrived on the place, hehe), the atmosphere, and especially for its taste. Lower marks goes to its minimalist menu and for being relatively pricey. The 7 of us were billed almost IDR 400.000,- For all those mentioned above, I gave it a “4-stars” out of scale 5.

Btw, guess what my Dad say when I finally got the chance to tell him the truth.. *grin

Hell, yeah!

At last! This tempting national food festival sponsored by Bango (one of the best & definetely the most delicious local brand of soy sauce - managed by the giant food & domestic products group Unilever) would be held again; mirroring at the success & the huge popularity experienced on its initial program last year.

Strongly hope that this year program would be betterly run & prepared, especially rememberingly its nearly chaostic atmosphere, the un-professionally work done of its operating committee, the morally unprepared of the festival participants, and worst, the wrongfully projection of the visitors enthusiasm. Bad habit and bad business, of course.

All and all, just make sure to be there, and I mean it!

Forget your diet and other priorities as well. You wont be sorry. Dont forget to bring along your camera, and your wallet, of course.. :p

Hei mas TLT!! Long time ga ngobrol2 lagi... hehehe.... Thanks for this review, yaah.

Hmmm, kayanya citra D'Cost makin jelek aja yah? Banyak complainnya.

Lately aku jarang dapet review resto2 baru niiiyy. Eh, tapi aku mau rekomendasiin Cilantro! Dimsumnya wenaakkk bangett!!

Harga untuk dimsum not bad-lah. Sekitar 13rb-15rb per-porsi.

Nyummmmm, it's the best i've ever taste!! Kalah deh lumpia mayonaise-nya Samudera! Ukurannya soalnya besar2 dan makannya jadi puas. Dapet 6 potong pula! Harganya 15/16rb. Trus, save the best for last, cobain Mantaonyaaaaaa!!!! It's soooo gooood!! Mantaonya besar2, porsinya 6, dan angettt bangettt...... Pokoknya wenaakkk!! Huehehehhehe.

They have the best Mantao in town!! Hehehe

*Duh, apa waktu itu sebenernya gw cuma lagi laper aja yah? :p :p

JCo - donuts & coffee
oleh: terbanglah lebih tinggi

Score:
5-stars at first.
Yet the more I think, the more I’d like to downgrade it.
Oh, they don’t take delivery order, crap!
4-stars would be enough, then.

Find out further, here

Sure this JCo-ing things is quite phenomenal. I mean, whose haven’t ever heard of it? It’s one of the most talked about happening, up-town. Not to mention that more than often ones have to patiently (or not that patient, sometimes) wait in line, just to enable them to be served by its staffs. And those are being witnessed by my own eyes in more than one outlets of them.

Also don't forget about its taste, and the varieties of the items sold. Or by its unique names. Try “Al-Capone”, for instance. I believe – and informally confirmed – it is their most favorite menu; actually it is not that exotic, nor even cruel; as suggested by the name (which is borrowed from a notorious Chicago outlaw figure on Malaise period). It’s just simply a basic donut covered with almond slices and a sweet white chocolate sauce on top. Well, I got to admit that it’s one of their most delicious thing; but sure that name creativity also means a bit for the customers’ curiosity, and then, love.

Bite a gangsta, anyone? Here you go!

Is that original? Is that only a follower, of a more internationally prominent brand; Krispy Kreme of MAP (a sister chain of starbucks etc)? Is that the first in town? Does it have the longest queue?

It doesn't matter. For as long as you're merely a customer, not the competitors. Taste is the basic mantra, my friend. Price is what would be matter the most. Not any irrelevant matters called as originality and else and “less sweet” or anything. And as long as it doesn't breaks any law nor patent, then so what? As long as it is delicious and not that pricey, then so what? As long as it still have that suspicious queue (wink2!:p), then so what?

Be noted, that it already took a frontal assault against its newest and heavy weight competitor at Senayan City, lower level. When you have some spare time to be wasted, try to compare both.

Hints:
If you can’t hardly wait to grab some easy bite whilst at the same time can’t stand the queue (which apparently is not part of our great culture as fellow Indonesians), try to steal a chair inside the outlets, and take your order. A coffee with a donut would be enough; though they sure have to learn further how to differentiate a good coffee with a colored hot water – it’s totally tasteless!

By the last time I did a dine-in, they give their basic item for free – a glazed donut. Pretty interesting; though not that suitable for a coffee. I’d rather take my daily doze of caffeine and a donut as I did it before on Dunkin Donuts, BNI City of Sudirman; whilst working as a consultant for Conoco Phillips (mid 2003). Dunkin’s donuts might be just mediocre, but their caffeine booster is damn working!

What make it more interesting, when Senayan City has just opened for public (and still not being too crowded and hectic as it is now), JCO attracted its loyal and its soon-to-be customers by giving away free sample of that glazed donuts. Of the many occasions I happened to be around, once I managed to have myself almost half of a dozen of free glazed JCo donuts. Ahaha.. Not bad, eh?
